Getting started with Lekhita

From opening the app to sharing your first bill on WhatsApp takes about ten minutes. You do not need a computer or any accounting knowledge — the phone in your pocket and one email address you can open are enough.

Before you start: two honest things

  • You need an email address you can open right now. Sign-in today is by email — we send a code to your inbox. Mobile-number sign-in is being built; until it lands, a Gmail account on the same phone is the easiest way through.
  • The first open is slow. The web app downloads itself the first time you visit — on a weak connection that can mean a blank white screen for a while before anything appears. It is downloading, not stuck. After the first time it starts quickly, and it keeps working when the network dips.

1. Sign in with your email

Open the app and enter your email address. We send a six-digit one-time code (OTP) to that inbox — type it in and you are signed in. There is no password to remember, and we never ask for one. If no account exists for that address, one is created for you; there is no separate sign-up step.

Never share an OTP with anyone, including anyone claiming to be from Lekhita. We will never call and ask for it.

2. Tell us what your business sells

Lekhita asks one important question during setup: does your shop sell products (kirana, boutique, electronics), services (salon, repair, tailoring), bookings (tutors, photographers, wedding vendors) — or a mix? The app arranges itself around your answer, so a salon sees an appointment book and a kirana sees a fast billing counter.

Pick the closest answer and carry on — you are not committing to a category, only telling the app which screens to put in front. One honest warning: this answer is set during setup and cannot be changed from settings afterwards today. If you realise you picked wrong, message us on WhatsApp and we will fix it on our side rather than make you start again.

3. Add your first items

  1. From the home screen, tap Items.
  2. Tap Add, type the name and the price. That is enough to start billing — photos, stock counts and categories can come later.
  3. For services and bookings, add what you charge for each service the same way.

Some business types (for example wedding trades like photography and makeup) come with a starter catalogue already filled in — edit the prices and delete what you do not offer.

4. Make your first bill

  1. Tap New Sale.
  2. Pick the items, adjust quantities, and take the payment however you normally do — cash or UPI.
  3. Save. The bill is recorded and today's total on the home screen updates immediately.

5. Share the bill on WhatsApp

Open any bill and tap Share. Lekhita writes the receipt message for you and attaches a private link the customer can open in their browser — no app needed on their side. Send it on WhatsApp, copy it, or email it.

What next?

That is the daily loop: bill, share, done. When you are ready for more, see Reporting to read your numbers, GST if you have (or will need) a GSTIN, and Staff & permissions when you want to bring your team in.
